It's Not Bob the Builder...

S.O.S. for Information Literacy offers Educators High-Tech Solutions for the Low-Tech User

BuILder is a feature coming soon to all users of the S.O.S. for Information Literacy website, a joint effort of Syracuse University's Center for Digital Literacy and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. BuILder (stands for Information Literacy Builder), will allow users to translate lesson plans into actual online lessons for their students. That is, instructors will be able to actually "build" an online lesson with menus, links, and of course, the research challenge. BuILder is continuing to be tested (S.O.S. for Information Literacy, 2006). Click here for an explanation of S.O.S. and buILder. An example of a high school social studies buILder can be accessed by clicking here.

I have to say that one of my favorite things about blogs is the opportunity to title entries. Well done!
I enjoyed a chance to look at your builder, and am curious about how it connects to Web 2.0--it's certainly interactive (and yours links all sorts of connections--the flash movie, etc.), but I'm curious whether it would be seen as something evolving based on the user.
I think I'm still trying to figure out Web 2.0. Thanks for setting up all of those links...something to aspire to!

Is there a function built into BuILder for collaborative development? This would seem to be a valuable feature. Alternatively, what if there was an automatic function to create a "mirror" of existing BuILders that could then be tailored to another teacher's need?

I think that I agree with YALITC about the connection to Web 2.0...not sure that it's completely apparent to me as of yet. Builder seems more like a template driven website development tool than most of the communication interactive web 2.0 areas we're covering...

Wow! I look forward to all that your website has to offer. As one who used the BulLder template, I found it difficult to navigate. The link to an SOS lesson plan led me to Thea's lesson on poetry which was amazing in its design and thought. Thanks

I agree, both Yalit and Mandatory. Speaking specifically to Mandatory, I really think that the feature of creating a "mirror" of a particular buILder so that it can be personalized more easily is genius. This feature and the collaborative development from various locations are two aspects that would be more aligned with Web 2.0. Although not socially based, buILder is a worthwhile technology. 2.0 is a viable addition, but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
